Certain spices may lower breast cancer risk

LOS ANGELES -- Eating food with a little spice could help lower your breast cancer risk.

A new study shows that compounds from two spices, pepper and turmeric could help prevent breast cancer.

Researchers at the University of Michigan found that when curcumin from turmeric and piperine from black pepper were applied to breast cells in the lab, the number of stem cells decreased but there was no change in normal cells.

They say limiting the number of stem cells can limit the cells with potential to form tumors.
