According to Skincare-News.com, expectant women should avoid exfoliants that contain chemicals such as salicylic acid is a form of aspirin, which can also be found in some anti-aging creams, cleansers and toners. Aspirin has been linked to complications during pregnancy.

Pregnant women should also stick to a simple skincare routine and use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser, and keep the body hydrated all day, they urge.

And while some women might be tempted to skip makeup all together, or contrastingly, go overboard, celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown told the Babycentre.com that there were some essentials still to be get in the handbag, the news provider reports.

These include concealer, yellow-toned foundation, pink blush and your favourite lipstick. And not forgetting sunscreen, they add, as hormonal changes can cause melasma or "pregnancy mask".
