What's the most important dietary change the average 40- plus woman can make?

Cut calories. Your metabolism slows as you get older; to stay the same weight, you need 50 to 100 fewer daily calories per decade, on average .(If you consumed 1,700 calories a day at age 30, for example, you need about 1,600 at age 40, assuming your activity level remains the same.)

Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important things you can do for your health--many studies show that being overweight or obese can increase your risk of a number of conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and some forms of cancer.
