People who are at risk of anorexia are mostly females consisting of 95% but males also develop this kind of disorder.

Anorexia is a disorder when a person starts to go on a diet and wants to lose weight overnight. Avoidance of food to be thin can become an obsession on her part that’s why it becomes a form of starvation and it’s also a form of addiction. There is an occurrence of rapid weight loss that’s becomes a mastery and control.

There is no definite cause for anorexia but some experts believe that due to the demands coming from the society and families could be the underlying causes of this condition.

It usually starts during puberty or when one reaches adolescence stage, and mostly Caucasians. A distorted image of being thin is more appreciated or desirable at work and in the public eye.

There are two types of symptoms and signs for anorexia. These are psychological and behavioral aspects. As for both aspects, it usually starts with depression and being antisocial, become irritable, always upset and do not want to interact with other people, experiencing fitful sleep which causes fatigue. Also, they develop an obsessive compulsive disorder, gives them anxiety, and compliant, they also want to take control and being perfectionist in terms of their aspects in life and eating habits.

Treatment for anorexia since they suffer from malnutrition is through intravenous feeding when they’re hospitalized to correct their nutritional condition. They must therefore gain weight. For the psychological treatment, a group therapy and family therapy are essential for recovery of an anorexic patient.
