Foods to avoid in Gastritis

Gastritis can be referred as the inflammation of the stomach. A diet for this condition would mean eating foods that are mildly flavored and are easy to digest. Therefore, you must be able to plan your meals to include foods which you can tolerate best.

Foods to avoid are alcohol, black and red pepper, chilies, chili powder and hot peppers which often irritate the stomach lining. Foods which contain caffeine increases the amount of stomach acid and these are coffee, teas, colas, cocoa, and chocolate. Limit or avoid these items if they cause you pain.

Limit intake of tomatoes and it's juice, peppermint, fatty foods and citrus juices because these could cause heartburn or pain in the esophagus. You may also limit the intake of seasonings like onions, garlic, cinnamon and cloves if it upsets your stomach.

It is also recommended to follow the BRAT diet (Banana, Rice, Apple, Sauce, and Toast).
Eating fiber rich foods will not worsen stomach pain for patients with this condition.
