Obese Kids Are 63% More Likely To Be Bullied In School

According to a new study, researchers have found a direct link between obese kids, and bullying in schools.

Researchers led by Dr. Julie C. Lumeng of the University of Michigan carried out a study on bullying in schools, and a potential link between bullying and obesity.

What they found was that there is a correlation between kids who are obese, and those who are most likely to face issues in regards to bullying.

The study included roughly 800 children from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Huan Development Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development. They focused in on these children and found some amazing results.

They discovered that kids who are considered to be obese were 63% more likely to be bullied while in elementary school.

Take into account that roughly 1 in every 5 elementary school kids in the U.S. is obese, and we have a major epidemic here.

Bullying is a serious problem in the United States right now and is one that hundreds of thousands of communities are trying to deal with.

Hopefully a study such as this will help shed some light on the problem and where bullying can be addressed.

The study has been published in the June issue of the journal Pediatrics.
