Superbug NDM-1: Key facts, signs, symptoms and prevention

superbug NDM-1
A new superbug NDM-1 which is New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactimase -1 has been discovered in the UK. This superbug NDM 1 enzyme resists almost all antibiotics leaving a great danger to health all over the world.

In nature several superbugs are there. And sucg bacterias are reported from US, greece, Britain and many other nations too. This statement is justified by Director, Indian Council of medical research, ICMR. Being with this it is unfair to link India alone to this superbug bacteria.

Scientists warn that as of now this superbug ndm 1 is found to resist all antibiotics and there is no killer developed and because of this it can easily spread all over the nation. superbug NDM 1 is New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1 or NDM-1. Symptoms of Super bug NDM-1 , Klebsiella Pneumoniae and E. Coli Symptoms.

How NDM-1 effects Human Body

* Multi drug-resistant bacteria are already a growing problem in hospitals across the world, marked by the rise of “superbug” infections like methicillin-resistant Staphyloccus aureus (MRSA).
* NDM-1 makes bacteria highly resistant to almost all antibiotics, including the most powerful class called carbapenems.
* Most worryingly, NDM-1-producing bacteria are resistant to many antibiotics including carbapenems.
* The scientists said, a class of the drugs generally reserved for emergency use and to treat caused by other multi-resistant bacteria such as MRSA and C-Difficile.

Symptoms of Super bug NDM-1 Bacteria, Klebsiella Pneumoniae and E. Coli Symptoms

* Klebsiella bacteria contains the superbug NDM-1.
* Klebsiella pneumoniae symptoms include sudden Onset, of High Fever and Hemoptysis .
* Klebsiella pneumoniae is a common gram-negative bacteria seen worldwide.
* It is also causing Urinary Tract Infections, Nosocomial Pneumonia, and Intra abdominal infections.
* NDM-1 which is found in the E. Coli bacteria may be the cause of Urinary Tract Infections.
* E. Coli is the leading cause of urinary tract infections outside of hospitals.
* E. Coli is Antibiotic-resistant.
* E. Coli is also responsible for cases of Fatal Pneumonia and other infections.

Countries where Superbug NDM1 Bacteria is spreading

In a study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal, the researchers found that NDM-1 is becoming more common in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan and is starting to be imported back to Britain in patients returning from these countries.

Experiments with Superbug NDM-1 Bacteria

Walsh and his international team collected bacteria samples from hospital patients in two places in India, Chennai and Haryana, and from patients referred to Britain’s national reference laboratory between 2007 and 2009.They found 44 NDM-1-positivebacteria in Chennai, 26 in Haryana, 37 in Britain, and 73 in other sites in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.

Preventing the Spread of Superbug NDM-1 Bacteria

To prevent spread of Superbug NDM-1 Bacteria, Doctors advise to provide adequate cleaning and sanitizing of all areas is the best means of preventing further spread of the superbug bacteria. Hospitals and doctors are under advise to stay on top of the cleanliness issue.

1. Don’t demand a prescription of antibiotics from your doctor, unless he or she has diagnosed your affliction as a bacterial infection that requires it.

2. Take all of the antibiotics as prescribed, even if the symptoms subside.

3. Never share your antibiotics with friends or family, even if you are 100% sure that they have the same infection. Let your doctor do the exam and write a new prescription.

Experts commenting on Walsh’s findings said it was important to be alert to the new bug and start screening for it early. It seems to be more dangerous than Swine flu, since it is working on Resistance of Human body.
