It's Heart Health Month, and while hopefully you are aware by now that heart disease is the number one cause of death in women, what do you know about keeping your heart strong and healthy?

* Eating excess amounts of sugar each day increases your risk of heart disease, so limit the amount of excess processed sugar in your diet to 100 calories, or about six teaspoons of the sweetener.

* The American Heart Association's recommends a blood pressure of 120 systolic over 80 diastolic or less; anything 140/90 or higher represents hypertension.

* Omega-3s lower bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and also may help lower blood pressure, so if you haven't already, now's the time to add fish, walnuts, or flax-seed to your diet!

* The majority of heart attacks in women occur 10 years after menopause. Women are at higher risk for heart disease 10 years after menopause, diet and exercise help reduce the risk.

* Since 1984, more women than men die of heart disease every year.
