Brussels Sprouts effective in prevention of certain type of cancers and diseases

Brussels Sprouts familiar, small, rounded cruciferous vegetables, resembling miniature cabbages, which grow in clusters upon an upright stalk. Popular winter vegetable grown throughout Britain.

Brussels Sprouts are excellent source of fibre, vitamins (especially C and B9), minerals (including iron), beta carotene (precursor of Vitamin A) and other beneficial plant chemicals- nitrogenous in doles.

Health benefits:
It contains vitamins, minerals, carotenes and phytochemicals which are essential for good health and prevention of disease. beta carotene and vitamin C have powerful antioxidant activity. Substance present in Brussels sprouts may give some protection against a number of diseases and conditions, including certain breast cancers, uterine cancer, bowel/stomach cancer and possibly lung cancer.

Brussels Sprouts may be boiled or steamed and usually served as a side vegetable.

Disadvantage: May cause wind.
