Children acquire colds easily due to the following reasons:

Newborn children acquire temporary immunity to cold viruses from their mother. During the infants 6 months, immunity has waned and they are very susceptible to over 100 cold viruses.

Children have close and intimate contact with their parents and other adults and to children as well.

Young children are not able to practice good personal hygiene, like hand washing and covering mouth when coughing and sneezing.

Ear drainage and sinus passages and the bronchial tubes of young children are small and easily obstructed by mucus and mucosal swelling.

When these factors combine, thus making children very susceptible to colds and the primary reservoir for cold viruses.
