Since elderly people may be at risk for nutrient deficiencies, they should ensure adequate intake of vitamin D, calcium, folic acid, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, magnesium, potassium and fiber.

There should also be an increase in antioxidant, fruits and vegetables that rich in potassium. Examples of of these items are Brussel sprouts, cranberries and plums.

Dietary fiber helps in maintaining cholesterol level and improve irregularity in bowel movement. Sources of fiber can be found in beans, oats, oranges, raspberries and green peas.
