Results of a new study show that people who work a lot of overtime are at increased risk of developing heart disease.
The study of 6,000 British civil servants, shows that the longer the work day is, the more strain that is put on the heart.
Researchers documented their findings in their study which is published online in the European Heart Journal.
According to the researchers, of the 6,000 people they studied, as many as 369 developed heart problems, some people even dying from their newly acquired conditions.
Possible reasons for this trend include; lack of time to relax, the inability to exercise due to there only being so many hours in a day, and a stressful work environment.
The researchers stress the importance of balancing one’s work and life accordingly so that one has ample time to relax and live outside of the workplace.
