The World Health Organization has warned that dengue disease can pose a serious threat to health across the globe.

The UN health agency reported that in the past 10 years, the number of dengue cases have doubled and will keep on increasing if immediate steps are not taken to curb the menace.

The agency also said that almost two-fifths of the population all over the world is under the threat of dengue and 70% of the total lot is from the Asia Pacific region.

Dengue is a severe flu-like infection and Aedes mosquito is responsible for the transmission of the disease into humans. The illness can also lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can even lead to death of the patient.

According to the WHO's regional director for the Western Pacific, Dr. Shin Young-soo, it is essential to muster the natural resources to uphold the dengue prevention and control.

He further stated that in order to encourage global agencies and donors to tackle the disease, the profile of the disease should be lifted on the global health agenda.

The factors responsible for the increased number of outbreaks are rise in temperature and higher rainfall, the ideal breeding conditions for the mosquitoes that transmit the disease.
