Bleeding Gums: Effective Home Treatment

bleeding gums treatment
Bleeding gums may cause a huge amount of discomfort- both mentally as well as physically.

On an average, three out of four people over thirty-five years of age, suffer from diseased gums. Good gum care is essential for proper dental hygiene. Healthy gums are red, regular, compact and hard while unhealthy gums are spongy, dark red or very pale.

Bleeding gums are not to be ignored. They are often the first sign of possible periodontal disease which if left unchecked can lead to permanent tooth loss.

Home remedy tips to prevent bleeding gums

Vitamin C
Comsume citrus fruits , like oranges, grapefruit, lemon and lime. Include Guavas or pomegranates in your daily diet to ensure healthy gums as these fruits contain large quantities of vitamin C.

Grapefruit Seed Extract
Dilute a drop or two in a small amount of water. Just enough to barely cover the bottom of a cup. Coat a section of the dental floss or floss pick with grapefruit seed extract. Floss gently between each tooth where the gums have been bleeding.

BloodRoot
Bloodroot is a somewhat rare plant that contains a number of alkaloids that help to fight oral bacteria. It has been tested with positive results and can be purchased in the form of a toothpaste marketed as a bleeding gums cure.

Special Herbs Mouthwash
Another promising home remedy harnesses the healing properties of essential oils in the form of a mouthwash. This mouthwash contains sage oil, peppermint oil, chamomile tincture, myrrh and Echinacea amongst others. These herbs and essential oils have powerful anti-inflammatory attributes and can help to inhibit the growth of micro organisms in the mouth helping to prevent bacteria.

Check Your Tooth Brush
If your gums bleed while brushing, change your toothbrush and buy a soft bristle toothbrush, so that you can go easy on your gums at first.

Home Made Saline
With a pinch of salt soaked in a glass of lukewarm water, make a homemade saline solution. This will help increase circulation in your gums and reduce the swelling.
Use this to rinse in the morning and in the evening.

Get Rid of Plaques
Plaques are formed even if the tongue is unclean. Make sure to clean your tongue twice a day with the help of a tongue cleaner.

Diet
Watch your diet. Eating more healthy foods, especially foods lower in sugar (the perfect food source for bacteria) will control bleeding and swelling of the gums. Additionally, eating well will strengthen your immune system and your body will be better able to fight off infection, oral and otherwise.

Gum diseases can become serious problem if left untreated or if treated improperly. Consult your dentist if the situation is worst you may be in need of surgical procedures.
