New Brain Health Test to Detect Early Signs of Dementia
Early diagnosis of the risk of dementia could become easy, as the Australian scientists have claimed developing a brain health test that could accurately examine the early symptoms of cognitive impairment.
A computer-based test has been developed by the scientists at the Australian National University (ANU), which would prove beneficial in determining the risk of getting affected with dementia later in life during middle age only.
The test identifies lesions in the brains that are associated with dementia. Also, it evaluates the time taken by a person to react when taking notice of irregular answering patterns.
The research involved around 430 men and women from the Canberra area with ages 44 to 48. The lesions were found in less than 10% of the people.
As stated by Professor David Bunce from the ANU's Centre for Mental Health Research, though it was not certain that the middle aged people detected with lesions would suffer from dementia, but there were some reasons for which the research was important for.
The study was beneficial in finding out the presence of lesions in the brains of some adults who were in their 40s that devastates in dementia.
"Although the presence of the lesions was confirmed through MRI scans, we were able to predict those persons who had them through very simple-to-administer tests", said Mr. Bunce.
