How to know you have Hernia?

Hernia is a condition wherein an organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a hole or a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue.

The most common types of hernia are inguinal (inner groin), incisional (resulting from an incision), femoral (outer groin), umbilical (belly button), and hiatal (upper stomach).

In inguinal hernia, the intestine or the bladder protrudes through the abdominal wall or into the inguinal canal in the groin. It occurs in men because of a natural weakness in this area.

Inguinal hernia signs and symptoms include:

• A bulge in the area on either side of the pubic bone.

• Pain or discomfort in the groin, especially when bending over, coughing or lifting.

• A heavy or dragging sensation in the groin.

• Occasionally, in men, pain and swelling in the scrotum around the testicles when the protruding intestine descends into the scrotum.
