Beauty Tips For Men

Beards and moisturiser, Soap & Glory, manicures, SixScents fragrances, eyebrow dyeing, concealer

THE PROFESSIONALS
My skin feels dry and tight, but can you moisturise under a beard? If so, what is the best product to use?

Rob, by e-mail
“You can use moisturiser on bearded faces, though it will not penetrate as deeply,” says Roy Patterson at the Barber at Alfred Dunhill. “Pankhurst Everyday Moisturiser [£18] wakes up skin with menthol and relieves dryness with macadamia-seed oil. After cleansing, massage down the jawline to follow beard growth, making circular movements to stimulate blood flow.”

MORNING GLORY
A Shave to Love? The Clean of England? It’s worth buying these shaving and shower gels from Soap & Glory just for the laugh-out-loud names. Plus, they do a good job. £3.49-£3.99, from Boots

REAL MEN HAVE MANICURES
Try the Body Shop buffing board for a good finish.

FIVE-STAR PRODUCT
This limited-edition, unisex fragrance project is a collaboration with six designers, including Richard Nicoll. Could be embarrassing and posey; instead, it’s soigné and cool. SixScents Series Two, £57, from Liberty

PERFECT PORES
It has been a huge hit for the ladies in Harrods, and now Nubo is after the men. Try Perfectionist (£98), a balm that leaves skin glowing, and the Cooling Aftershave Moisturiser SPF 20 (£80)

THE FIX
For a cheap way to give your face a lift, try dyeing your eyebrows. Gary Richardson, colour guru at Daniel Hersheson London (020 7201 8797), says it works wonders and he has seen a rise in both women and men requesting the service. Meanwhile, men now comprise 40% of visitors to the Debenhams Brow Bars (twice as many as last year) and not only to pluck away a few strays: many opt for threading to achieve a more groomed brow. The department store is even planning Guybrow nights to cater for the extra demand.
