MASTODYNIA (Pain in Breasts)
It is a state of Hyperesthesia and Neuralgia of the mammary glands, and is rightly called Mastalgia or Neuralgia of mammae. In some cases pain is due to enlargement of nerve- fibers, perhaps due to sensitivity of the glands to even slightest pressure, while in others deeper structures are involved. Other factors that contribute to pain in breasts are hysteria, green sickness (chlorosis), anemia, some boil/pimple.
In some cases pains in the mammae are caused during menstrual period also. Lactation abnormalities, either deficient or excessive milk in the breast, may also precipitate pains, though disturbance of the sexual organism cannot be overlooked.
