Let all concerned note that no quick fireworks should be expected nor anticipated or taken for granted if following points are ignored, overtly or covertly.
As soon as any member of a family shows any sort of unusual behavior, temperament, symptom, mental agitation, rage, mental upset etc., he should be taken to the physician. In some cases, rather in most of the cases, patients are not co-operative or even refuse to visit a doctor, nor do they listen any sane advice and, even if they are forcibly led to the doctor, they will show offensive and resistive behavior, they will either refuse to divulge their true symptoms or will/may simply conceal some facts.
If you ever encounter any of said situations, as described above, you must not force the patient to visit a doctor nor compel him to do so. You can seek assistance from patient's closest confidant, to help him/ you in the matter.
In a few cases, though rarely, the patient may agree to visit the doctor, yet he may refuse to take any medicine. If such a situation ever arises, you can consult the doctor concerned as how he could help in the matter.
If all efforts, to persuade the patient to visit a doctor, fail, you should note all the symptoms, for being reported to the doctor.
It hardly matters which mode of treatment is subscribed to but the most important factor that needs attention that is the directions of the doctor must be complied with in entirety, with regard to medicine, dietary regimen, rest, exercise etc. Some nervous diseases can be cured within a short period but some have to be managed and looked after for a fairly long time. Hence, the patient and his attendants shouldn't love patience or leave the treatment mid-way, taper or increase the dose, intermingle two types of treatment. In case of infants, pregnant readies, old and weak persons, it is necessary to exert extra caution. There are some safeguards, precautions, Dos-and-Don'ts which are peculiar to each system.
In some cases patients recover quickly by simple modifications in daily diet, work patera, change of place/climate, holiday or recreation. Disorders like cervical spondylosis, tension headache, back pain, frozen shoulder, backache, sciatica, neuralgia, neuritis, fatigue, writer's cramp, wrist-drop, stiff neck etc. require rest in a particular position. Here, the patient has to manage himself, because relevant exercises and rest play an important part than the medicines. Medicines simply help the physical system to gain quicker recovery but are no substitute for auxiliary measures.
If an already overstressed organ, or the organ at fault, is not rested in a specific position and for a specific duration of time, the affected limb is not likely to regain normalcy, even if the best type of medicines are given.
Diseases like encephalitis, meningitis, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral embolism, spinal bleeding, hemiplegia, paraplegia, cerebral syphilis, facial paralysis, hysteria, epilepsy, hystero- epilepsy, catalepsy, tetanus, chorea, infantile convulsions-to name a few disorders only-must not be treated at home, delayed for proper treatment or left to be treated by less qualified doctors, or still worse by so-called mystics, quacks.
Since most of-nervous diseases owe their origin to either brain or spinal chord, it is not prudent to escape/overlook certain essential clinical tests. These tests enable a physician to locate the exact cause of the malady and, thus, help a lot in chalking out a planned course of treatment. These days clinical investigations are forerunners of treatment. No doubt, some of the investigations are so expensive that a person with limited and sparse income cannot even conceive of such costly tests.
But, when patient's life, itself, is in peril such monetary constraints, shouldn't stand in the way of proper and requisite treatment. The position worsens when an innocent child, old person or a pregnant lady is involved- All said and done, an extra expensive and distant treatment cannot be coped with for a long period. Hence, it is always better to place the patient under care, guidance and treatment of a fully qualified and competent doctor whose advice could be handy in case of some exigency, or who is available to pay a personal visit to the patient's house, as and when called upon to do so.
