Are you tired all the time? Do you feel as if someone has tied a concrete block to your behind, forcing you to drag it around all day? There is a way to untie this proverbial brick--tap into your secret energy source. Everyone has it; in fact you have more than one. It is a matter of knowing what these sources are and putting them to work for you.

1. Over-the-Counter Sources

Oh the number of energy boosters on the market. Have you ever tried any of them? Have you ever been tempted to use any of them? Tsk, tsk. Most of these come in the form of processed caffeine, stimulants and sodium. Interestingly enough, though, they contain the same fats and proteins your body produces. Rather than taking synthetic energy boosting products that may cause harmful side effects, you can make natural changes and reap greater benefits.

2. Eat

Let's get one thing straight. You need calories. Your body needs calories. They are the fuel you require for energy. When you eat, your body processes the nutrients from the food, converting them into energy. You must eat healthy, though. Determine how many calories you need each day, then get them from lean proteins, whole grains, lots of veggies and fruits.

3. Exercise

Your metabolism is another secret energy source in your body. It is responsible for the number of calories and fat you burn, but also controls your level of fatigue; the slower your metabolism, the more tired you are. The answer? Exercise! Walk for 30 minutes, ride a bike, dance, clean your house...anything that increases your heart rate.

4. Breathe

Yes, breathing is very basic. You do it without thinking. However, you need to take time through the day and breathe deeply. This increases the amount of oxygen your body delivers to your cells, and helps transport the nutrients from the foods you eat to these cells as well. An increase in oxygen means an increase in energy. Breathe deeply as many times through the day as possible.

5. Drink Water

If you opt for juices, soft drinks or coffee instead of water, you could be dehydrated. "What? Dehydrated? But I drink all this liquid during the day!" If this is what you are thinking, you are wrong. Liquid is liquid, but it does not replace the benefits of water. These other drinks contain sugar, a leading cause of dehydration. Additionally, water comprises 90 percent of your body. If you do not replace what you lose each day (e.g. urination, sweat) dehydration occurs. This results in fatigue. Always keep water with you no matter where you go. Drink at least 64 ounces each day.

6. Rest

You absolutely must get enough rest if you want more energy. Everyone, regardless of what they say, needs 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. For optimal results, get yourself into a routine. Go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time every morning. You will soon see an increase in your energy levels.

Energy in not just a word to throw around. You need it to complete everyday tasks and to get through the day. Your secret energy source is not really a secret. It is right before your eyes. All you have to do is commit to making the changes this secret requires.
